Who is this for?
Something that behooves every game designer, really all artists, to consider is: who is this for? If you are looking to make a living doing a thing, have a career in the arts, you need support. You need patrons, you need players, you need buyers. To get that support, you need engaged people who get what you are doing. The work connects with them. Makes them feel something new or something familiar in a new way, and they'll want to pay you for it. So, WHO is this for?
It's for you!
And by that, I mean players. And by players I mean: 2d nostalgia nerds, metroidvania maniacs, goths, game philosophers, hoary gorey horror fans, arcade archeologists, barcade beasts, bowling alley ghosts, mancave bats, lady lair black cats, the family fundead, and all the rest of you creatures of the night out there ravening for delight.
It's for me!
I've got so many creative itches to scratch that there isn't enough calamine lotion in the world to quell them. The incessant mental buzz to do things that no one asked for and serves no practical purpose. Unless you consider art, entertainment, and mental engagement to be practical purposes, of course. Which I do. The creative impulse is at the core of being human. Everything we do that is worthwhile is imbued with that primordial spark of inspiration. Whether that thing is pottery or knitting or building gaming PCs or raising kids. It's profoundly inside us to make things. This is the thing that I'm making and it consumes all of my free moments, and- guiltily- some that belong elsewhere. I'm driven, like a werewolf under the Moon's spell, to senseless action. Unlike the werewolf, I use blood and death to bring enjoyment and fun rather than terror.
It's for us!
It is my sincere hope to find people who get a kick out of this and feel some level of connection and kinship with the others who also enjoy it- and by extension- with me. It's all well and good to make mad things in your gothic tower, but it's a whole other jam to find the weirdos that like that kind of thing and want to show up and do the monster mash. I hope ya'll like this and I'm looking forward to meeting you.
Cheers!
